The staff and students at the Royal and Prior, Raphoe, have had a busy few weeks.
Not only are they preparing for Christmas exams, but they’re also raising much-needed funds for charity.
Engineering teacher, Mickey Healy, organised for the male members of staff to grow moustaches in aid of the Irish Cancer Society’s Movember initiative.
To coincide with this, Wellbeing Co-ordinator, Emer Kelly, got on board with the idea of MOVEmber for the ladies on the staff who were encouraged to MOVE for the month of November.

Each initiative got a huge response from all the staff, with 16 moustaches being grown and 18 ladies on the move.
IT teacher, Mark Deane, was voted as having the best moustache and school secretary, Ivy Bates moved the most clocking up a phenomenal 233km during the month of November.
Collectively, the ladies clocked up 1,145.6 kms!

Students were asked to sponsor the teachers in their endeavours, and participants also got sponsorship raising a total of €1,750.
The students were under the guidance of Home Economics teacher and JCSP Coordinator, Mrs Helen Patton.
They have been busy collecting non-perishable food items for Christmas food hampers in aid of St. Vincent de Paul.
There was a huge response from all students and staff, with enough food being donated to make up 26 hampers, and a monetary donation of €250.
Every year, transition year students get involved with the Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal, and this year was no different. Forty students donated boxes, which have all gone to worthy less fortunate children across the world.
Jodie Pearson and Millie McArthur also raised a total of €500 for the Irish Cancer Society through the sale of their recipe book as part of their TY mini-company.

Dr. Howard Welch, Principal, has been overwhelmed by the school community’s generosity.
“I am delighted, but not surprised by this as we are a very generous and caring school,” he said.
“This is something which we value and foster here in The Royal and Prior all year round, but particularly at Christmas time”.
