Free €100 electricity scheme to be paid directly to providers

The Government’s €100 electricity credit will mean no work for consumers.

The bonus to help curb increasing energy costs this winter will be paid directly to energy suppliers as part of the scheme.

The Cabinet will discuss proposals this morning to give every household in the country €100 off their electricity bills.

The subsidy is expected to apply to bills in March or April of next year as legislation will need to pass through the Dáil early in the new year for the discount to be put into place.

The plans will go to Cabinet this morning and were developed by Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe, Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Michael McGrath, and Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan.
