How a young Donegal man became a farmer – without land!

A young Donegal man who wanted to farm all his life but didn’t have access to land has had his dream come true.

Chris Digimas never thought his one goal would ever happen.

Now at 30 years of age, Chris is running a dairy operation with nearly 300 cows, having never inherited family land, livestock or machinery.

Darragh McCullough visits Chris who is leasing a farm from retiree Billy McMahon who still lives on the Donegal farm.

Their agreement, brokered by the Land Mobility service, is an example of how young landless farmers can get into the business, and how land owners can retain their property and keep it operational.

See the full story on Ear to the Ground on RTE One this Thursday at 7pm and repeated on Sunday next at 1.10pm.
