Deputy Thomas Pringle says the Government’s plan for a €100 energy credit for all householders is another missed opportunity to help people who are struggling financially.
The Government will give the credit to all private households in the New Year as part of plans to combat rising energy costs.
But Deputy Pringle said: “Without means testing, this Government giveaway will go to everyone – whether or not they need it – and it goes straight into the pockets of energy companies.
“The Government should focus on developing a system that would support people who are in need, one that targets grants appropriately. People would be better served with that approach.
“A €100 credit will do little to help individuals and families who are struggling to meet rising energy costs and other cost-of-living increases.
“But with this Government, it’s always one inadequate ‘solution’ after the next,” Deputy Pringle said.
