One of Donegal’s bravest citizens has been recruited as an Honorary member of An Garda Síochána.

Noah Gooch, aged six, has been welcomed onto the Letterkenny squad as a Little Blue Hero.

He was joined by his proud parents, Lee and Claire, and his big brother Lee Jnr for the special occasion.

Noah’s family have made an immense contribution to the community this year. In August, they led the ‘Noah’s Bed Push fundraiser’ to raise a whopping €237,112 for nine children’s charities. The fundraiser, which involved pushing a bed from Dublin to Donegal, inspired huge levels of kindness from people all over Ireland.

Noah is a shining example of courage. The lovable Trentagh boy, who has Down Syndrome, was diagnosed with leukemia in January of this year. Through his journey, he has captured the hearts of thousands.

Gardaí in Donegal sought to honour Noah’s bravery by inviting him to join their force.  Yesterday, the Gooch family were paid a visit by Garda Annmarie Mc Grath (Community Policing Unit, Letterkenny) and Garda Paddy Ryan (Roads Policing Unit, Letterkenny).

Honorary Garda Noah was presented with his Little Blue Heroes induction pack and he also received his Sarah’s Christmas Gift parcel – an initiative founded in memory of Sarah Robinson, an exceptional child from Wexford who passed away in 2019.

A spokesperson for Garda Síochána Donegal said: “We have no doubt that Honorary Garda Noah and his big brother Lee Jnr are right at the top of Santa’s ‘nice list’ and we hope that they and their Mum and Dad have a very happy Christmas.”

Little Blue Heroes is a charity established by Garda staff which aims to support local Gardaí in providing financial assistance to families in need in their local communities who have children undergoing long-term medical treatment for critical illness.

The foundation also aims to provide Garda themed distraction toys, activity books, and children’s events (e.g. Garda for a Day or Special Garda Open Days) for the children they support. To find out more or to donate, visit www.littleblueheroes.org
