Donegal to host one of the world’s biggest technology showcases

One of the world’s most prestigious showcases for new technology is to be hosted in Co Donegal next year.

The MIT Innovators Under 35 Europe — showcasing Europe’s most brilliant young minds — will be hosted in Gaoth Dobhair in May 2022.

Since 1999, the event has been celebrating the most brilliant young minds on the planet engaged in breakthrough technologies.

Previous tech trailblazers recognised on the list include Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page.

The event is to take place at gteic@Gaoth Dobhair on the Údarás na Gaeltachta business park, Páirc Ghnó Ghaoth Dobhair, in the Donegal Gaeltacht.

The event was last held in 2019 in France — before Covid disrupted the annual presentation.

Backed by Údarás na Gaeltachta and NUI Galway and organised by Aisling Events, the 2022 MIT Innovators Under 35 Europe will attract nominations from tech pioneers whose work has the potential to positively change the world.

The 35 innovators on the 2022 listing will be invited to a Festival of Innovation in the recently-opened tech hub Gteic Gaoth Dobhair on 19-20 May 2022.

MIT Technology Review, established in 1899, is the world’s oldest and most prestigious technology magazine.

Connla McCann, CEO of Aisling Events said: “Nominations are now open on our website and it’s our hope to attract applicants from the cream of our young inventors, entrepreneurs and visionaries right across Europe.

“We look forward to welcoming them to the Gaeltacht of West Donegal to see how the once most-isolated areas of Europe are now at the forefront of the tech revolution. We are keeping a close eye on Covid developments but our intention is to make this the first in-person MIT Innovators Under 35 Europe event since the Covid storm hit.”
