The funeral takes place today of the young Arranmore Island man who died in a drowning tragedy earlier this week.
Daire Conlon died after he went swimming at Leabgarrow on Monday afternoon last with a friend.
Daire, aged 18, was a Leaving Cert pupil at Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada.
His funeral mass takes places today at 11am at St Crone’s Church following by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Tributes have been paid all week to Daire who was a hugely popular young man within the island community.
He is survived by his family and many friends including mum Claire and dad Derek.
Local priest Rev. John Boyce attended the heartbreaking scene after Daire was taken ashore.
He gave the young student the last rites and said there are simply no words to describe how the community of Arranmore is feeling now following the tragedy.
“There is very little to say. There are no words to describe the situation and the only word you could use is numb. That’s how people feel,” he said.
