Another site sought for bring banks in Dungloe

Donegal County Council is examining an alternative site for a Bring Bank facility in Dungloe.

The issue was raised by Cllr Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig this week amid calls for a public facilty that is open 24/7.

The current bring bank in the town is privately owned and accessed four days a week during daytime hours only.

Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig suggested that another site should be established at the Dungloe Public Services Centre.

“Dungloe is the biggest town in the Glenties MD, it needs a bring bank that is open seven days a week and is well-maintained,” he told Donegal Daily.

“I want to acknowledge the good work of the staff at the existing centre. But the part-time hours do not suit everyone.”

Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig said he is opposed to privatisation of the service, and called for recycling banks to be brought back into the control of the council.

“It’s not good enough that Donegal County Council provides only one centre in each MD,” he said.

“This means that people from Falcarragh have to travel nearly an hour’s drive to Dungloe. This is taking people away from their own area and does not help the shop local message.”

Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig suggested that four bring banks would best-serve the Glenties MD, with council-managed sites located at Falcarragh, Dungloe, Gweedore and Ardara.
