Another 19,290 cases of Covid have been confirmed as he number of people in hospital with the virus continues to remain above 1,000.

There are 1,062 people in hospital with Covid-19, a decrease of one since yesterday.

Of these, a total of 92 are now in intensive care.

It comes as Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly said he has received updated advice this afternoon on Covid restrictions and he will be bringing that to a Cabinet meeting tomorrow.

Close contacts who are fully boosted and have no symptoms will no longer have to restrict their movements, under new advice for the Government from Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan.

It is expected that if agreed the changes will be implemented within a day or two after Cabinet meets tomorrow.

He told Newstalk “The main change and recommendation is as follows. If you have boosted immunity currently you are asked to restrict movements for five days. That requirement would go completely. So, no restricted movement if you have a booster,” he said.

Minister Donnelly said there would still need to be regular antigen testing and a need to wear higher grade masks for a few days.

He said that this change would affect an “awful lot of people and it will be very welcome”.
