Mystery oil leak returns to popular beach

Homeowners near Rossnowlagh beach are once again being asked to check their oil tanks as a long-running oil leak returns.

For the past 18 months, traces of home heating oil or diesel have been found on the shore front and in the surface water drains in the Rossnowlagh area.

The issue was thought to be resolves before Christmas, but it has now returned and is flowing through the sand.

“We can’t track down where it is coming from,” said a member of the Friends Of Rossnowlagh Beach group.

“Did you fill your tank over the Christmas holidays is your oil is running out quicker than usual… Please check it out, you may have a leak!”

Donegal County Council is investigating the matter.

If you suspect your tank may be losing oil or you have filled their tank more often than usual this year, the advice is to engage a registered plumber to pressure test supply lines and check tanks for leaks.
