There has been a fall in the number of people with Covid-19 in hospital.
As of 8am, there were 940 patients with the virus, a reduction of 80 on the same time yesterday morning.
It is the first day in almost a week that the figure has dropped below the 1,000 mark.
There was also a drop in the number of Covid patients at Letterkenny University Hospital – 45 admitted patients with the virus there as of the latest figures, down nine on the day before.
It comes as the Chief Executive of the HSE said “a consistent set of Covid-19 trends give great hope”.
In a tweet this morning, Paul Reid said hospital cases related to the virus are down and “fewer patients are on oxygen support”.
He also said referrals from GPs and the overall number of coronavirus cases are down.
Mr Reid said “booster vaccines and the public’s response have so far eased the worst impacts” and he urged people to “please get your booster asap”.
Yesterday, the Department of Health confirmed 17,065 new coronavirus cases.
