Letterkenny man in court on animal neglect charges

January 17, 2022

A Letterkenny man has appeared in court on a number of animal neglect charges.

Danny Connors is charged with the offences at his address at Canal Road on January 16th.

The court heard that as a result of the incidents a number of animals including a foal and two ‘greyhound-type’ dogs had to be put down.

Garda Sgt Jim Collins told the court the dogs were put down after they attacked the horse.

Details of the specific incidents were not read out in court.

However, a file on the neglect including a report from the ISPCA Inspector and a vet were handed into Judge Alan Mitchell at Letterkenny District Court.

Pictures of the animals were also handed into Judge Mitchell.

The Director of Public Prosecutions had recommended that the case be heard by the District Court.

However, after reading the file, Judge Mitchell shook his head and he said would not be inclined to accept jurisdiction to hear the case.

Connors, aged 48, was not in court for the short hearing.

Judge Mitchell adjourned the case until February 28th for a book of evidence and also directions from the DPP.
