The Cabinet has formally signed off on a €1,000 bonus for public healthcare workers and also declaring Friday 18th March as a bank holiday for 2022 only.
There is to be a €1,000 once-off tax free payment for public healthcare workers who served onsite in clinical Covid-19 exposed environments during the pandemic, with healthcare workers in nursing homes and hospices to also be included.
There will also be an 18th March bank holiday which is a one-off and from 2023 it will fall in early February to mark St.Brigid’s Day.
The 18th March bank holiday falls on a Friday which will give many a double bank holiday and a four day weekend.
The public holiday on the 18th will be a national commemorative event in remembrance of people who lost their lives due to Covid-19.
