Bank reveals Donegal punters’ spending spree after pubs reopened

New data reveals that Donegal people have eagerly embraced the reopening of pubs, with larger tabs recorded over ‘Freedom Weekend’.

Bank of Ireland reports that Donegal pub-goers had one of the highest spending figures in the country last weekend. In fact, we spent 105% more on bar tabs than the pre-Covid January weekend in 2020.

The credit and debit card data, as reported in the Irish Examiner, showed that social spending in Ireland jumped by 26% across all counties and age groups. The 18 to 25-year-olds were shown to have spent the most celebrating the return of normal socialising.

The mass return to the pub began on Saturday, after restrictions on vaccines, seating and bar stools were dropped.
