CAO Countdown @LYIT: Megan’s Student Story: From LYIT to Director of Global of Events for Junk Kouture!

As Director of Global Events and Production for Junk Kouture, an integrated media and entertainment company, Megan Kelly has spent her time recently developing new markets in New York, London and Paris. Megan plays a key role across the various aspects of Junk Kouture’s International roll-out.

Junk Kouture inspires young people to design, create, collaborate and challenge the status quo. Junk Kouture is a recycled fashion competition which challenges second level students to create wearable fashion designs from junk materials.

Megan credits the Marketing programme at LYIT for helping her develop her digital skills and providing her with extensive knowledge and confidence in social media management, she commented, “During my time at LYIT, I developed significant project management skills and through modules such as ‘understanding consumer behaviour’ I have the experience in understanding future trends and customer behaviour.”

She added, “My work today involves a lot of different things, from overseeing the daily operations of the company to involvement in the distribution of Junk Kouture across Ireland and new International territories. Last year, I was involved in the roll-out of the Junk Kouture app, I was involved in the on-going software development of this. From logistics to event management and production; to school liaison and the online community building, I never have a dull working day. With the shift to digital events and broadcast during Covid, I even got to work as a producer with the Junk Kouture Grand Final on RTE.”

Megan commented, “I really feel that my study in Marketing at LYIT gave me a greater understanding of the overall marketing environment, while on a personal level my study enhanced my expertise and professional development which has been so beneficial to me in my current role as Director of Global Events and Production.”
