Letterkenny man pleads guilty to careless driving causing death

A Letterkenny man has pleaded guilty to careless driving causing the death of a man in Inishowen in 2018.

Brian Harkin, aged 77, appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court today.

He pleaded guilty to careless driving causing the death of Edward McIntyre at Magherabeg, Fahan on July 4th, 2018.

Mr Harkin, of Loughnagin, spoke only to plead guilty during the short court arraignment.

His barrister Richard Lyons, SC, said his client has no previous convictions.

Members of the late Mr McIntyre’s family were in court for the hearing.

The 57-year-old motorcyclist was killed following a collision with Mr Harkin.

Mr Lyons asked for a probation in the case.

Judge John Aylmer agreed and adjourned the case for sentencing until the next sitting of he circuit court in May.
