Jeremy Corbyn has been spotted in Donegal this weekend before his address at the Bloody Sunday anniversary in Derry.

Corbyn who was leader of the Labour party from 2015 until 2020, met up with Letterkenny man and former Derry Journal editor Pat McArt and was a special guest on his podcast with Jude Collins.

Jeremy said: “I remember Bloody Sunday, I was 23, living in London. When we got the news what had happened, it was totally shocking.

“What I noticed was the way the story changed quite quickly in the media from the innocent people shot down in the street, the victims were the guilty ones and the ones who did the shootings were the innocent ones and that narrative has carried on.

“The following week we had a march in solidarity from Kilburn to Whitehall which was huge, very tense and a lot of trouble and a lot of arrests including me!”

Pat, on arranging meeting Jeremy Corbyn, told Donegal Daily: “It was set up some weeks ago by Garbhan Downey from the Rathmore Centre in Derry. They are hosting him.

“He is giving the address at the 50 anniversary of Bloody Sunday. Jeremy wanted to see a bit of Donegal and, possibly, get away from the cameras so it was suggested he stop off here for a cup of coffee and a chat. So he did. Very down to earth, friendly man.”
