Gardaí are on the hunt for two males after a grandmother and her granddaughter were left shaken by an aggravated burglary in Buncrana.

The terrifying overnight incident occurred when two men broke into the woman’s home in the Meenaharnish, Ballymagan area on the outskirts of the town on Saturday 11th December. Details of the ‘sinister’ incident were released in an appeal by gardaí today.

Garda Niall Maguire said the men broke into the house in the early hours of the morning and remained in the house for a long period of time. The two female occupants were not injured but were traumatised by the ordeal.

The burglars made off with a number of belongings, including a gold chain and locket, a silver-coloured brooch with a red stone and a small sum of money.

Gardaí said both males had northern accents.

The first suspect is described as being in his mid-30s, of average build and height. He wore dark grey Under Armour branded tracksuit bottoms, a dark hoodie with his hood up, dark gloves and no mask.

The second male is described as being in his early 20s of smaller build and height, he wore black Nike shoes with 3D lines across the top. He wore a knee length puffer coat and a blue disposable face mask and blue gloves.

Gardaí are particularly interested in any sightings of a black Volkswagen Passat, possibly 2005-2011 model, with a Northern Irish registration plate.

“We are appealing for sightings of this vehicle from the time period of 5.30am – 6.30am on the 11th of December on the road from Meenaharnish, Carnbrae, Quigley’s Point, Ture straight and on into Muff and along the Donegal-Derry border,” said Garda Maguire.

Anyone with dashcam footage or with any information in relation to the crime is asked to contact the Buncrana investigation team at: 0749320540
