Two drivers have been nabbed by Gardai, one doing 172kph, as road conditions deteriorate with plunging temperatures across the county.

Members of the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit caught the drivers smashing the 100kph speed limit in the area.

Anther driver was caught doing 163kph.

A spokesperson for Donegal Gardai pleaded with motorists to slow down with ice and snow forecast overnight.

The spokesperson said “Weather conditions are due to deteriorate overnight with a status yellow snow/ice warning in place between 3am and 10am tomorrow, Friday the 4th of February.

“It is advisable to drive with extra caution in such conditions.

“We urge all drivers to slow down. Always keep an eye on the speed at which you are travelling.

“Ensure that you are travelling within the legal speed limit.

“Speed can and does kill. Please play your part and help save lives on the roads.”
