Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and Donegal T.D., Charlie McConalogue today welcomed the allocations and said: “This record funding announcement for Donegal’s sports clubs and groups is tremendous news and the fact that Donegal has received the 6th highest allocation nationwide is testament to the success of sports in our county and the hard-work of all the staff, volunteers and participants of the clubs.
“The pandemic was a tough time for all of these clubs and groups and for everyone who participates in sports and it is great to see activity in sport in Donegal now better than ever. This funding will also help to boost our local communities in supporting a wide range of clubs from the scouts group in Carndonagh to rugby, GAA and soccer clubs right throughout the county.”
The Minister concluded “I thank my colleagues Ministers Martin, McGrath and Chambers for making this record funding allocation and all the clubs, groups and societies for their continued great work.”
Donegal Green Party Chairperson Michael White added his delight and said “Sport is a big part of people’s lives in Donegal and it’s brilliant to see that Minister Martin has allocated record funding to the county. Today’s funding helps every sport in the county, from GAA to Tennis, Golf, Swimming, Boxing and Soccer. And there is a great geographic spread, covering clubs and sports organisations from Bundoran to Malin”
