Pole position! Riddle of new Letterkenny traffic feature solved

Motorists using the Neil T Blaney Road in Letterkenny have been left stumped by an unusual addition to the local infrastructure.

Council officials this week installed the overhanging pole which stretches across the laneway of the busy link road.

Some were concerned the pole had suffered a malfunction and was falling down.

However, the overhang is part of a new set-up which will manage traffic between the Neil T Blaney Road and traffic entering and exiting from the recently-opened Joe Bonnar Road.

A spokesperson for Donegal County Council explained “The Gantry sign is part of the Signalisation infrastructure which was been designed by the appointed traffic signals designer, Traffic Solutions for the Neil T Blaney-Joe Bonnar Road Junction.

“The gantry will support the signal heads for this junction.

“It is anticipated that the lights will be activated after testing in a number of weeks.”
