The infamous ‘Donegal Tuesday’ celebrations are well underway in Galway city today, as hundreds of students pack into bars for the unofficial event.
The annual tradition sees students dressing in their Donegal jerseys and flocking to pubs early to celebrate all things Donegal. The celebrations last until late into the night and usually wind up on Eyre Square.
Queues were seen stretching along the city streets from some of the favourite watering holes this morning.
Rag Week was banned by NUIG and GMIT in 2011 following a number of incidents of antisocial behaviour, but unofficial events continue outside the colleges.
Galway City Councillor Mike Cubbard took to Facebook today to urge young revellers to be respectful and stay safe.
“Awful simple really, have fun but be respectful of the local community living in and on the outskirts of the city centre, be safe and grab the odd bag of chips over the day to keep yourselves half sober,” he wrote.
