Donegal County Council’s Roads staff have been in action from early this morning to keep roads passable as Storm Eunice snowfall continues.
Efforts are focusing on the R255/R241 back of Errigal Road, the R244 between Drumfree (North pole) and Carndonagh and the R250 road at Meenaroy.
Both the R250 Road at Meenaroy and the R255/R251 Back of Errigal Road have reopened now. Motorists are asked to please drive with care on all roads.
Motorists are being urged to take extra care throughout today and this weekend.
The following Status Yellow Snow and Ice warning remains in place for Donegal up until 10am tomorrow Saturday with a Status Yellow Wind and Rain Warning in place until 6pm this evening:
Status Yellow – Snow & Ice Warning : Falls of sleet and snow on Friday and Saturday with accumulations in some areas and icy stretches leading to hazardous driving conditions.
Status Yellow – Wind Warning : Northwest winds backing westerly will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65km/h with gusts of up to 110km/h. Coastal flooding is possible.
Marine warnings also remain in place for the entire Country with “Northwest winds to reach gale force 8 to strong gale force 9 on all Irish coastal waters.”
A wet and blustery weekend lies ahead with localised flooding possible. It is expected that there will be further rainfall and wind warnings for Donegal from Met Eireann for the weekend period.
During this period of extended inclement weather, the public are being urged to exercise extreme caution during the continued storm period. Avoid coastal or exposed areas, and be aware of the risk of debris, fallen trees or electricity wires.
Donegal County Council’s Severe Weather Assessment Team are keeping the weather pattern under review and will continue to monitor all local conditions as Storm Eunice continues. All Council services remain in a state of readiness as is the norm.
