The HSE has said it is not possible to cover all of Letterkenny University Hospital car park with CCTV following damage to a number of cars.

The issue was raised by Donegal County Councillor Albert Doherty at today’s meeting of the Health Forum West.

The Sinn Fein councillor said a number of his constituents have reported some damage to parked vehicles at the hospital.

HOwever, he also claimed there was a lack of assistance from the car security firm who have stated that “Cameras were not functioning properly or at all.”

Councillor Doherty asked for an update form the HSE on this situation and enable for follow up for visitors or staff who have had vehicles damaged?

In response the HSE said there are over 1,100 car parks spaces on the Letterkenny University Hospital campus.

It said the car parks are managed by a “competent external company.”

It added “A significant number of car parks have CCTV cameras coverage but it is not possible to cover all car park spaces with CCTV.

“We are constantly striving to improve our parking for staff and visitors and in late 2021 we upgraded the lighting in all our car parks and in Q1 2022 we plan to commence an upgrade of all our CCTV cameras.

“Our car parks are also patrolled regularly by our Hospital Security and all reported incidents are recorded.”

However, the HSE added “As with other public car parks, cars are parked at the owner’s risk.”
