A leading Donegal hotel has issued a warning after criminals tried to steal cash from the accounts of would-be clients.
Rathmullan House has been forced to make a plea to the public after online scammers pretended to be from the hotel’s booking department.
A number of people have be contacted by email by scammers asking them for personal financial details to book rooms at the hotel.
The hotel has stressed the emails are nothing to do with them and that a bogus email account is being used by the scammers.
A spokesperson for Rathmullan House said “We have been made aware of fraudulent emails being sent out purporting to be from Rathmullan House.
“These are not being sent from the hotel and we would ask that you delete them and do not open any attachments.
“We would never ask for your financial information to be sent via email to the hotel.
“If we were asking for a room deposit, one of our receptionists would always ask you to telephone the hotel directly. We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.”
