Freezing conditions are set to return in the days ahead as Met Eireann warns of frost and ice.
Temperatures could plummet to lows of -3C from Friday night and into the weekend.
A more ‘Atlantic regime’ is setting in this week, according to Met Eireann, with a potential for hazards in the north due to rainfall and wind as the more unsettled conditions take hold.
Tonight will be cold with “fairly widespread frost expected” and lows of -2 to 2 degrees.
Friday looks set to be a bright and fresh day with morning frost clearing to leave sunny spells and well-scattered showers.
Friday night however, will be cold and frosty with some ice patches forming as temperatures fall back to between -3 and zero degrees.
The outlook for the weekend is for further cold conditions and frosty nights.
Forecasters said: “Plenty of dry and settled weather over the weekend but rain is expected next week.”
