Volunteer surveyors in Donegal are urgently required for The Countryside Bird Survey (CBS) which starts again on 1st April and runs through to 31st June.
It is one of BirdWatch Ireland’s most important long-term monitoring schemes, designed to keep tabs on our breeding bird populations.
Some 200 volunteers already take part each year, however, they need more to make sure they maximise coverage across the country.
“The survey involves two early morning walks (carried out about one month apart, either side of 15th May) in a 1km square, noting down all birds seen and heard along the way,” a spokesperson for BirdWatch Ireland said.
“You will need reasonable ID skills (by sight and sound) for most of our common and widespread species.”
If interested, simply contact the CBS coordinator Dick Coombes at rcoombes@birdwatchireland.ie
A training session by Zoom will take place shortly, which will give new recruits a good grounding in how to carry out the survey.
