The cost of filling up a car at the pumps is almost €2 a litre in a number of Donegal towns.
A Donegal Daily fuel survey carried out yesterday evening revealed prices were as high as €1.96.9 in Donegal town and €1.89.9 in Liscooley.
However, at least one forecourt in Letterkenny was advertising both fuels this morning at €1.99.
Also yesterday, the Twin Towns of Ballybofey and Stranorlar were one of the cheapest areas of the county with all three garages selling petrol at €1.91.9 and diesel at €1.92.9.
But, this morning, one Ballybofey outlet had upped their prices to €1.97 for diesel and €1.99 for petrol.
Donegal town was by far the dearest location for both fuels yesterday evening.
The cost of filling up an average car will rise to €2,400 a year if petrol prices at the pump rise to €2 a litre, according to the Irish Independent.
Two years ago it would have cost around €1,500 a year to fill the same car, meaning a potential increase of €900 in annual costs since 2020.
Fuel prices are rising fast in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with expectations that average prices for petrol could soon reach €2 per litre in forecourts across the country.
Meanwhile, home heating oil in Donegal is now costing, on average, just over €1,000 for 1,000 litres.
