Detectives from the PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit have arrested five men in Derry this morning over the murder of journalist Lyra McKee.

Ms McKee was shot dead at Creggan’s Fanad Drive on Thursday, April 18, 2019 by a teenage New IRA gunman.

In a statement on Tuesday morning, the PSNI said: “Detectives investigating the murder of Lyra McKee in Derry on April 19, 2019, have today arrested five men.

“The men – a 20-year-old, two 21-year-olds, a 41-year-old and a 54-year-old under (Section 41) of the Terrorism Act.

“They have been taken the serious crime custody suite at Musgrave Police Station for questioning.”

A number of men have been charged with the 29-year-old’s murderwhile observing orchestrated rioting in Creggan.

Police suspect a 18-year-old New IRA terrorist fired the fatal shot which struck Ms McKee to the head.
