A man who parked a driveway to a house has been fined after he caused the householder to be late for a hospital appointment.

Cornelius Cagney appeared before Letterkenny District Court charged with parking in a manner that resulted in the vehicle obstructing an exit for vehicles from a premises.

The 80-year-old, of Woodlands, Naas, Co Kildare pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court was told that on March 18th last year a woman called Gardai and said a white Honda CRV jeep was blocking her access to her house at the Square in Milford.

Sergeant Gerard Dalton said the vehicle was parked in front of an access way to an occupied house.

As a result the woman said she was late for a hospital appointment by more than half a hour.

The owner, Mr Cagney, returned a short time later after several attempts to find out who owned the jeep.

A fixed penalty notice was issued but had not been paid.

Judge Brendan O’Reilly fined him €250.
