Popular Letterkenny singer Sinead Black has released a new single that strikes a chord with anyone with an Irish connection this St. Patrick’s Day.
The song, called ‘A Wee Sprig of Green’, is a well-known Irish song, but Sinead has added her own style and plenty of Donegal links into the mix.
And a very special Donegal connection lies in the music video, out now. Sinead, standing on the mountains in Fintown, is wearing a beautiful green dress worn by none other than the late Bridie Gallagher, The Girl from Donegal.
Watch here:
Bridie’s dress was part of a collection of clothing donated to An Grianan Theatre by her son. When Sinead was searching for the perfect dress to reflect the Celtic theme of the song, she couldn’t believe her luck.
“Bridie was an international superstar in the 50s and 60s, and to see her clothes, which were a part of her identity, was surreal. There is history in every dress.”

Sinead has seen some similarities in her story and Bridie’s recently. The Creeslough star rose to fame in the 50s and 60s singing in leading venues around the globe, with her audience often being made up of the Irish diaspora who longed to hear music from their homeland.
And during Covid-19, Sinead found that she could use her talents to connect Irish people around the world too. She and her dad, well-known singer Alex Black, performed home concerts throughout lockdown to help raise people’s spirits and raise money for charity.
“Myself and my dad realised that our audience was growing rapidly, and the main factor was Irish people were homesick, and the shows and the music brought home to them,” Sinead said.
Sinead wanted to give something back to her audience with Irish roots, and her new single is something special for those who wear their shamrocks close to their hearts on St. Patrick’s Day.
