Man to stand trial on rape and sexual assault charges in Donegal

A man who allegedly committed 27 sex offences in Donegal has been sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court.

The man, who is in his 50s, appeared by video at Letterkenny District Court today.

The accused man cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victims.

The charges include 24 counts of sexual assault and three other charges of alleged rape.

No details of the incidents were given in court.

Legal aid was granted to the man’s solicitor Mr Frank Dorrian in the case.

Garda Sgt Gerard Dalton gave evidence of serving a book of evidence on the accused man who has an address in Dublin.

Mr Dorrian was granted two legal counsel given the seriousness of the charges.
