An investigation is underway after a man was assaulted by a group of youths in Letterkenny Town Park.

The man was walking in the Bernard McGlinchey park on Thursday evening last (approx 8.50pm) when he was set upon by group of young males. There were around six or seven youths in the group, who punched the man to the ground and proceeded to punch him more when he was down.

The victim’s injuries were not described as life-threatening.

The group left the scene on foot in the direction of Letterkenny University Hospital car park.

Gardaí are probing whether the attack is connected to a separate incident in the nearby Glencar area on Saturday night, where a woman was assaulted by a young male attempting to steal her car keys.

Anyone with any information about the incidents is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda Station on 0749167100 or the Garda Confidential Line: 1800666111
