A border community will join the fundraising initiative headed up by Charlie Bird through a ‘Climb Barnes for Joe’ event this Saturday.

Charlie was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and, on The Late Late Show, announced he will climb Croagh Patrick on April 2nd in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House.

Former Curragh Athletic FC Killygordon and Blane Rovers (Aghyaran) player, Joe Gallen, recently passed away from the same debilitating disease.

Ciaran McGlinchey presenting his uncle Joe Gallen with a ball signed by the original Blane Rovers squad at a charity match last winter.

The Barnesmore climb will start at 10am, with Joe’s family taking part, and finish at approximately 2.00pm.

The climb begins at the entrance to Meenbog Wind Farm on the N15 main Ballybofey to Donegal town road.

Parking facilities are available off the main road at the Wind Farm entrance.

The climb is of medium to rough terrain along a roadway all the way to the top and is approximately a 10km round trek.

Details of how to donate are available at the following link: https://www.idonate.ie/event/3317_climb-with-charlie.html
