Roma Downey enjoys the best of the north west on Donegal break

Hollywood actress Roma Downey has been shining a light on the beauty of Donegal this week during her time Ireland.

The Derry actress, author and producer’s visit home was a bittersweet one, as it began with the funeral of much-loved local priest, Father Paddy O’Kane, who was born in Culdaff. Roma travelled back to Ireland for the first time in three years to attend the funeral of her ‘dear friend’ and deliver a reading.

After a week of ‘mixed emotions’, she took some time to rest in Donegal, showing that there’s no place like home.

In recent days, Roma has shared both fun and thoughtful photos from Downings and the Wild Atlantic Way with her one million social media followers. Roma and her daughter Reilly had great adventures at Tra na Rossan beach, Glenveagh National Park, and a trad session in the Harbour Bar.

The ‘Touched by an Angel’ star wrapped up her break with a poetic celebration of the best of Donegal, writing:

“Last day here and drinking it all in . Long walks , soft rain , birds singing , beautiful scenery , quality family time , tranquility , beauty of nature , time with old friends , beaches , mountains , greenery , pots of tea , live music , good food , kindness , laughter , guinness , golf or fish or hike or walk or drive this is modern day Ireland . Restorative , low key , special , spiritual , restful . Beautiful , fun 💚Grateful .

“I have been fortunate to be able to travel the world and have had some grand adventures but coming home is always special “ We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.” T. S Eliot
