Almost €10,000 has been raised for a family in Newtowncunningham who lost their home in a fire this week.

The Tinney family of Colehill had their lives turned upside down on Monday when a fire ripped through their home. They were left with only the clothes on their backs.

A community fundraiser was set up immediately to support the Tinneys in their hour of need. More than 260 donors brought the fund total to almost €10,000 – double the target.

Organiser Paul Canning, on behalf of the family, has thanked everyone for their tremendous support.

“The GoFundMe page is now nearing 10k which is absolutely phenomenal, Thank You. ”

He said the GoFundMe page will run for another week and will be closed Friday the 15th April 2022. To donate, please visit: https://gofund.me/16d2207c

“A number of people have approached me looking for a location to make a cash donation as they do not use the GoFundMe page, after a discussion with Cliona in the Newtowncunningham Post Office it was decided to put a donation bucket at her counter ONLY for Today (Thursday 7th) Tomorrow (Friday 8th) and Saturday morning (the 9th) till 1 O’Clock.

“Again on behalf of the Tinney family I thank you for your kind donations.”
