Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair launch on RTÉ RnaG

Áine Ní Bhreisleáin will present the launch of Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta programme Bladhaire on Thursday 14 April, broadcast live from Amharclann Ghaoth Dobhair.

The show will broadcast from 3pm – 5pm, and will be packed with brilliant music to start off a great weekend of music, dance and song in Gaoth Dobhair.

Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair, formerly Scoil Gheimhridh Frankie Kennedy, normally takes place over the new year the festival was rescheduled to the Easter weekend due to the pandemic, and will take place from 14 – 18 April.

The special launch event on Bladhaire on RnaG will include live music from several of the musicians taking part in the festival, including Ciarán Ó Maonaigh, Dermot Byrne and Steve Cooney, Diane Cannon, Bríd Harper, members of The SíFiddlers, and Caoimhín Mac Aoidh, fiddler and author.

Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair 2022 will include a huge range of events including classes in various traditional Irish musical instruments, dance and song from some of the most respected musicians in the tradition including Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, Jesse Smith, Tara Diamond, Jack Talty and Seosamh Ó Neachtáin.

There will be a series of concerts from Ireland’s finest artists, including Altan, Iarla Ó Lionáird and Steve Cooney with Dermot Byrne; The SíFiddlers; Acclaimed Harper, Laoise Kelly with Monaghan piper, Tiarnán Ó Duinnchinn and the much-loved singer Gabriel McArdle from Fermanagh.

One of the highlights is Oíche Ceoil na gConnallach “An Glúin Nua” showcasing the thriving talents of Gaoth Dobhair’s new generation of singers and musicians including Crann Óg, Megan Nic Fhionnghaile, Nia Ní Bheirn, Marty Barry and Cathal Ó Curráin.
