Community rallies around young Donegal man fighting cancer

The Kincasslagh parish is responding in droves to a fundraiser for a West Donegal man seeking cancer treatment in the US.

Pauric Bonner, who is in his early 20s, has undergone intensive treatment for cancer over the past two years.

The brave Belcruit man has now been given the opportunity to further his treatment in America. His local community, wanting to give him the best chance going forward, are rallying around him and his family to give them all the support they need.

Pauric has shown immense strength ever since he became ill in September 2020, at the age of 19. He underwent major surgery and has spent the past 18 months travelling between Donegal and Dublin for treatment.

“Pauric never once complained even though the treatment was fierce and really took its toll on him,” said Fr Pat Ward, who is supporting the Bonner family at this time.

Pauric’s next step is to travel to Maryland for treatment at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

An online fundraiser is underway, with donations flooding in overnight from family, friends, and kind strangers who are offering words of support and prayers for Pauric’s journey.
