Man still in custody following death of woman in Doochary

A man in his 60s remain in custody following the death of a woman in a housefire in Doochary on Tuesday afternoon.

The man was arrested at the scene and taken to Ballyshannon Garda Station on suspicion of criminal damage.

It follows the discovery of the woman’s body in a house in the townland of Coolvoy just before 5pm on Tuesday.

The fire was extinguished by Emergency Services at approximately 4.40pm. The body of the female, aged in her 80s, was discovered deceased inside the premises.

Gardai say the results of the post-mortem examination will determine the course of the Garda investigation.

A Garda spokesperson told Donegal Daily “The man remains in custody this morning.

“A Section 4 CJA, 1984 detention period can last for up to 24 hours not inclusive of rest periods.”
