Gardaí are investigating the vicious assault of a young man in the east of the county overnight.
Donegal Daily understands the incident, involving two men, occurred just before midnight last night at a house in the Emmett Park estate in Castlefin.
A spokesman for the Garda Press Office confirmed that one man is seriously ill in hospital.
“A man, in his 20s, was later taken to Letterkenny University Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition,” the spokesman said.
“Gardaí have arrested a man, in his 30s, in connection with this incident. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Letterkenny Garda Station. Investigations are ongoing.”
The scene remains sealed off for forensic analysis and Gardaí are conducting door-to-door inquiries.
