Leading social enterprise, Bryson Recycling, has been awarded a new three-year contract to continue managing the six Recycling Centres in the county by Donegal County Council.

A number of improvements have been introduced across the sites as part of this new contract, which commenced on 1st February 2022. The changes include new extended opening hours, with the Dungloe site being open on Tuesdays all year round and longer opening hours at the Milford, Letterkenny, Stranorlar and Laghey sites. As a result, Bryson have created new local employment opportunities, and recruited five additional members of staff to work at the sites. A wider range of materials will also be recycled, with soft plastics and paint being accepted at all sites. Soft plastics include plastic carrier bags, bread bags, fruit and vegetable bags, biscuit and sweet wrappers, breakfast cereal bags, frozen food bags and parcel packaging. It is important that any soft plastics that are brought for recycling are kept separate from other types of plastic, and they must be clean, dry and loose. Cans of paint will also be accepted at all sites too, allowing householders to safely dispose of this hazardous waste. Payments can be made at all sites now by card as well as cash.

Connie Gallagher, General Manager at Bryson Recycling said,  “We are delighted to win this contract and look forward to continuing to work in partnership with Donegal County Council  to provide our local circular economy approach to recycling across all six sites with the aim of increasing recycling and reuse whilst proving an excellent service to local residents.”

Suzanne Bogan, Waste Awareness Officer with Donegal County Council welcomed the continued collaboration with Bryson Recycling, “We have seen the numbers of customers visiting our Recycling Centres increase three-fold in the last 10 years as we have continually increased the number of waste stream accepted at the sites.  The further expansion of services at these sites under this new contract is good news for the citizens of Donegal and for the environment.
