There is a sense of outrage in the Twin Towns after a young man with autism was set upon and beaten while out for his evening walk last night.

The man was walking on the footpath opposite Andie’s Supermarket when he was set upon around 8pm.

At least two men jumped from a black car and approached the man.

They punched him three times in the face and left him with facial injuries before fleeing the scene.

The victim received treatment but it is not understood that he had to be hospitalised.

His irate family posted a picture of the man on social media last night appealing for help and expressing their outrage.

They say Gardai have been informed of the incident.

The man’s family has appealed for anybody with any information on the completely unprovoked attack to contact the Gardai.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed they are investigating the incident.

They told Donegal Daily “Gardaí are investigating an alleged assault that occurred on Main Street, Stranorlar, County Donegal at approximately 8 pm on Tuesday 10th of May 2022.

“No arrests have been made, investigations are ongoing.”
