Crash flags up road dangers in Letterkenny estate

A Letterkenny Councillor has called for a set of ramps to solve speeding problems in a residential area of the town.

A recent accident in the Harmony Hill and Meadow Hill Estates at Kiltoy has added urgency to the need for traffic calming measures in the area, according to Cllr Gerry McMonagle.

Last week a car rammed into several cars overnight. While nobody was injured during the incident, there was considerable damage caused to residents’ cars.

“If that had of been during the day there would have been children on the street,” Cllr McMonagle told the Letterkenny-Milford MD meeting on Tuesday.

He suggested that a speed advisory sign or even children at play signs could slow traffic.

“Unfortunately the road traffic collision last week emphasised and flagged up the dangers that the residents have to put up with,” he said.

The council responded to say that no action could be taken because the road is not in the charge of Donegal County Council.  The issue can be reviewed again if the estate is taken in charge in the future.
