Plans are underway to host a festival promoting Donegal golf, food, music and tourism during the Irish Legends Tournament in Downings this August.

Paul McGinley’s major golf event will be taking place at Rosapenna Hotel and Golf Resort from 16 to 20 August 2022.  Some of the game’s biggest names and celebrities will be coming to play, with fans will be travelling from all over to see them.

Donegal County Council is at an advanced stage of planning a week-long ‘Donegal Festival of Golf’ to maximise the benefits of Donegal being in the spotlight.

Events will take place each evening from 18th-20th August on the GAA pitch in Downings.

The Council’s Tourism Marketing Unit under the Economic Development Division has been working closely with event organisers European Tours on the organisation of the festival.

The Friday and Saturday night of the festival will have live music with headline acts to be announced in the coming weeks. The team is also engaging with Donegal Food Coast as well as local businesses to set up a bespoke Donegal Food village during both the tournament and the festival providing a strong authentic Donegal food offering to visitors.

The team is also working closely with the local community in Downings, including the local GAA club and Tidy Town Committee in making arrangements for the event as well as with the Council’s Environment team to ensure that the event is as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible.

A meeting has been planned with local service providers including the Council’s Roads Team, An Garda Síochána and Civil Defence in the coming weeks.
