Gardai are investigating a shooting incident close to the set of Liam Neeson’s movie being filmed in Co Donegal.

Donegal Daily understands a person working on the set of the film ‘In the Land of Saints and Sinners’ is understood to have come close to being hit by a stray bullet on lands at Carrick.

It is believed the bullet was let off by hunters shooting deer in the early hours of Saturday morning last.

Filming on the movie was not ongoing at the time of the incident.

The incident was reported to Gardai who launched an investigation into the incident.

It is understood local Gardai visited a house in the Kilcar area and spoke to a number of men.

However, no arrests have yet been made.

Gardai have confirmed they are investigating a shooting in the area.

A spokesperson said “Gardaí are investigating the discharging of a firearm on land in the Carrick area of Donegal in the early hours of Saturday 14th May 2022.

“No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made at this time. Investigations are ongoing.”

Almost 300 people have been working on the set of the film which is also being shot in Glencolmcille and Kilcar.

The film tells the story of a retired assassin (Neeson) being pursued by three terrorists.

It also features veteran Irish actors Colm Meaney and Ciarán Hinds

Filming began in March and is expected to finish in June.

A call was put out by the company behind the film appealing for locals to take part as extras.

Directors specified that they were looking for long-haired people to play the part of GAA players.

The film has brought an unexpected financial boost to the area ahead of the summer tourism season with many of the cast and crew staying on local accommodation.

Many including Neeson have been pictured mixing with locals and even dropping into various pubs and restaurants.
