Red dust from the Sahara desert could brng a rare ‘blood rain’ event to Ireland this week.
Red or orange rain could fall in Ireland and the UK as thunderstorms mix with the dust cloud.
Blood rain occurs when relatively high concentrations of red coloured dust or particles get mixed into rain, giving it a red appearance as it falls. The UK’s Met Office is warning that parts of England could see red or orange rain over the coming days.
Unsettled weather is also forecast for Ireland for the rest of the week. Met Eireann is warning of showers over the weekend, most frequent in the west and north on Saturday.
“The unsettled weather continues in to next week with further showers or longer spells of rain on Monday with temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees as moderate winds become northwesterly for a time,” the national forecast said.
