Hikers have been asked to stay off Errigal this week to allow for major works on the mountain path.
Mc Gowan Environmental Engineering Ltd. are carrying out extensive works from Tuesday 24th May to Saturday 28th, both dates inclusive.
“We respectfully ask for the co-operation of the public not to climb the mountain during this period as the main mountain access will be closed,” a notice from the company said.
The works are part of the Sustainable Access & Habitat Restoration Project, which involves the upgrading of a 3km path from the existing car park to the summit of the mountain. The works aim to enhance the visitor experience and to protect against further erosion of the mountain.
Traffic management will be in place on the R251 Regional Road on the approaches to the car park for the duration of the works.
