The Sliabh Liag Hillwalkers are inviting walking enthusiasts to join a special fundraiser this June Bank Holiday weekend.

On Sunday 5th June, the group will lead a scenic walk across Glencolmcille, Glenhead and into Port. The 15km route takes in outstanding scenery of Wild Atlantic Way, including dramatic cliffs and sea stacks that are sure to amaze.

All proceeds from the day will be in aid of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust – a charity that has done valuable work assisting Donegal families when loved ones die abroad. The Trust, since its establishment in 2013, has repatriated the bodies of 36 people home to their families Donegal.

The Sliabh Liag Hillwakers have dedicated their fundraising walk to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust for a number of years. The group is delighted to be able to resume the event in 2022 after a two-year hiatus.

A very enjoyable day out is promised on this moderate walk, which will take approx four hours. Registration takes place from 12noon at John Eoiníns Bar Glencolmcille. The guides will depart Cashel village in Glencolmcille, Co. Donegal at 1.00 PM, climbing to the watchtower on Glenhead, following the coast down into Port then returning by the RTE mast and finishing back in Cashel village. Hiking boots are essential as the route is on mostly tracks with some rough terrain. Participants will enjoy a break at Port and refreshments afterwards at John Eoinín’s.
