A teenage boy who was caught stealing a bike from a Letterkenny hotel has appeared in court.

The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, allegedly took the bike from McGettigan’s Hotel at the weekend.

Gardai told Letterkenny District Court that he was caught ‘red-handed’ taking the BMX bike on Sunday last, May 29th.

Garda Ciaran McGinley gave evidence of arresting the youth at 8pm on Sunday. The boy was charged at 11.32pm and he made no reply, Garda McGinley said.

The accused was accompanied to court by his mother.

Garda McGinley told Mr Justice Paul Kelly that CCTV clearly showed the youth entering the hotel and leaving with the bicycle, which was valued at €150. The bike was found at the suspect’s home.

“He was caught red-handed,” Garda McGinley said.

Sergeant Jim Collins told the Court that Gardaí were seeking to revoke bail, which was granted on other charges. The boy is on bail on five separate charges.

Justice Kelly granted bail and adjourned the case until June 20 when all matters will be heard.
