The Department of Tourism & Sport at ATU Donegal has a reputation for delivering academic programmes of the highest calibre in the areas of Tourism, Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Sport.

The department recently launched two new CAO degree programmes, which will be based in the Letterkenny campus. These programmes have been developed to meet the growing demand from industry for Hospitality and Tourism graduates with the specialisms and skills needed to drive forward the largest employment sector in Ireland:

  • BA (Hons) in Hospitality Management (CAO Code: LY348)
  • BA in Tourism & Hospitality Operations (CAO Code: LY337)

Both programmes have been developed with industry in mind and will prepare graduates for a successful career in the Hospitality and Tourism sectors.

BA in Tourism & Hospitality Operations – Letterkenny Campus – CAO Code: LY337

The aim of the Tourism & Hospitality level 7 bachelor degree is to develop the operational skills of a graduate to work within the tourism sector. This programme is experiential in nature and combines practical classes, field trips and work experience all of which will equip a graduate to work in the area of tourism and hospitality both here in Ireland and around the world. The programme will be based in the Letterkenny campus from September 2022.

A focus of the programme is on the operational side of hospitality management where students will focus on subject areas such as bar and restaurant operations, beverage management, rooms division management and culinary skills. Students will also enhance their digital skills to work in the sector. These subjects are further complemented with more tourism and discipline specific subjects such as guiding and tourism destination development. BA(Hons) in Hospitality Management – Letterkenny Campus – CAO Code: LY348

The new three-year level 8 honours degree aims to develop the skills and competencies of students to become a supervisor or manager within the tourism sector. This honours degree programme is designed to enable learners to experience a broad education in hospitality and tourism studies. Delivered in the Letterkenny campus from September 2022, this programme will provide learners with an oversight on literally every aspect of the sector, from bar and restaurant operations to rooms division management, as well as Culinary Skills and revenue management. This course will empower learners to embark on an exciting career with the opportunity to travel far and wide with the qualification.

Career opportunities include roles in the hotel industry, bars and clubs, as well as cruise ships, airlines and catering companies. An optional one-year work placement will be available to those students who have successfully completed 120 credits in Year 2 (min GPA 50%). The work placement will provide learners with the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience in the hospitality sector.
